The Classic Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route. Dates: 22nd-28th April 2019 (7 days guiding)
Spaces still available
Almost certainly the most famous multi day ski tour in the world; The Chamonix-Zermatt high-level route swathes a path through the high mountains of the central Alpine chain, using high-level glaciers and mountain passes, to link the two most famous mountain towns. This course is spread over 7 days, with 6 days spent staying in mountain huts during the traverse and the first day used for a training and warm up tour near Chamonix. The scenery is incredible with every day offering something completely new. The skiing is also fantastic, with most days offering some fun descent to enjoy. The plan will be to ski the most popular version through Verbier, allowing us some extra flexibility and the use of the lifts there. The final day crosses 3 high cols and provides 2500m of downhill skiing to enjoy, with the descent beneath the shadow of the Matterhorn being something you will never forget.
This is a long traverse, with 7 touring days in a row. That said easier days do often follow harder ones, giving some chance for recovery. It is still important that you can climb about 800m / day (1200m max) for consecutive days. Your skiing level should be good intermediate and you should be able to handle any off-piste snow, safely and efficiently. This will include being able to at least side-slip safely on firm 40 degree terrain, as well as stem turning in breakable crust. Some ski-touring or mountaineering experience is helpful. It is not essential, however, because training will be provided, throughout the course.
Prices from: £1050.00 per person. NOW INCLUDES 5 NIGHTS HB IN MOUNTAIN HUTS!!!
Off the Beaten Track
An Off-Piste Adventure week. Dates: 19th-23rd February 2019 (5 days guiding)
This will be a 5-day course based in and around the Chamonix valley, with the main focus being on finding the best snow and ski terrain, given the conditions. This will involve some touring, so it essential that you have equipment to be able to do this; it’s actually a good opportunity to rent a set up and try a little touring for the 1st time.
We’ll be hoping to ski classic runs like the incredible Vallee Blanche and find amazing skiing away from the crowds, whenever possible. At least one day spent in Italy is virtually guaranteed, skiing some of the fantastic off-piste in Courmayeur. As well as more great glacial skiing, like the Toule glacier, starting from the Mont Blanc Skyway at 3500m. Of course when you’re in Italy there’s always time to soak up the holiday vibes too, with great coffee and Gelato.
They’ll be plenty of opportunities for learning and self-improvement throughout the week and we’ll be covering topics such as: avalanche avoidance and rescue; ski touring / mountaineering equipment and it’s use; as well as off-piste skiing hints and tips.
You should be at least an intermediate level skier, able to ski red runs all day and at least occasional black runs. You should also have some experience skiing off-piste and handling a wide range of snow conditions safely and efficiently. This week is a good opportunity to work on your off-piste skills further, as well as experiencing the techniques required to ski safely on glaciers and even perform some basic mountaineering. Turning up with strong thighs will allow you to enjoy your week to the full.
Prices from: £750.00 per person.
